Ways in which the Con-Dems have fucked us over since failing to win an election in 2010:
- Tuition fees raised from around £3000 to £6000-£9000 a year.
- Funding cut for humanities subjects in further education.
- Cut the police budget by 20%, meaning there will be 10,000+ less police officers by 2015.
- Raised VAT to 20%, hitting the poorest hardest.
- Scrapped Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
- Capped housing benefit, effectively forcing the poorest out from expensive areas with high living costs (such as London).
- Phasing incapacity benefit out (support for those who are ill or differently abled and thus have difficulty working) and replacing it with ‘employment/support allowance’ which aims to get people back to work.
- Introduced a ‘universal credit’ system for benefits, which will affect lone parents badly.
- Planned to sell off some of England’s forests.
- Cut the Arts Council by 30%
- Cut local council budgets with the weird effect that the councils which had the smallest budgets had the biggest cuts (some poorer inner London areas such as Hackney will be cut by 8.9%, while richer areas like Buckinghamshire are being cut by less than 1%).
- Cut councils on average by 7%, resulting in loss of public services (like libraries) and jobs.
- Rail fares to increase 3% above inflation – basically, higher rail fare.
- Proposed that parents pay to use the services of the Child Maintenance Enforcement Commission (child support).
